When we received an order from Booth Industries for a drop seal nearly 3 metres long, we did check to see if there was a mistake in the order. But it was correct: four Stadi LD-24/20 WS drop seals measuring 2896mm. And if you are wondering where on earth there could be two doors this big, the answer is the South Pole for an Antarctic Research Station being built by contractor BAM Nuttall.

The Norseal seals will provide acoustic protection for a double set of steel doors in the challenging polar conditions of Antarctica. The Stadi LD-24/20 WS is engineered by Athmer is a single actuated bottom edge drop seal for metal door sets. Made from aluminium with a silicone gasket, it’s been tested to BS EN ISO 10140-2 to achieve an acoustic rating of 54dB. As with this large seal, we can make these drop seals to any size but they are available off-the-shelf in 750, 900, 1050, and 1200mm lengths as standard for next-day delivery.

Some seals in the Stadi range can be fitted with an optional delayed action that extends the closing time of the seal to around 6 to 8 seconds, so it’s suitable for airlock situations. When it’s opened, the seal moves quickly up again so it doesn’t scrape against the floor. This means that the seal can be fitted on doors where the floor might not be even and extends the maintenance-free optimum performance of the door for many years.
